Welcome back to all families after our wonderful autumn break!
We jumped right back into year of learning after our break and we would love to share with you some of the topics we are currently working on.
Math:
Currently in Math we are just wrapping up our division and multiplication unit. We have worked our way up to 4 digit multiplication and 1 digit by 3 digit long division. Students should be comfortable using multiplication and division strategies to solve both number and word problems. We have also been looking at factors and multiples as part of this unit! We will be having a math test on Thursday to test our skills!
Science:
In science we are learning about trees and forests and our Canadian forest ecosystems. We have done this by looking at the different leaves and trees in the field. We also have examine the difference categories of organisms in the environment, such as: producers, consumers, decomposers, not to mention herbivores, carnivores and omnivores!
Language Arts:
Over the last few weeks we have been reading and writing biographies! We focused on the 5 W's (Who, What, Where, When and Why) in order to gain a deeper understanding of some of the outstanding people in our society. To wrap up this unit we researched important people and create Google Doodles on them. Students presented their reasons for choosing their important person this week as well as the amazing artwork they completed! If you want to check out their amazing work they will be posted shortly outside of rooms 11 and 12!
Social Studies:
Our classes have been examining democracy, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Constitution. We recently had the opportunity to take part in Student Vote, wherein we were able to take part in the democratic process of the federal election! To prepare for this student vote and become informed voters, students researched the different political parties and their leaders, on specific school appropriate websites.
Physical Education:
We are also just wrapping up our basketball unit in gym. We have been practice chest, bounce and overhead passes as well as, dribbling, catching, shooting and lay ups. We are looking forward having our amazing students try out for the 5/6 basketball team in the spring!
We look forward to sharing more of our learning with you in the coming year!
Sincerely,
Mr. Anderson
