Here are some learning updates:
Here are some learning updates:
Language Arts: This week we began our in-class novel study,
"When You Reach Me", by Rebecca Stead. This is an exciting
novel that blends the genres of mystery and science -fiction. Students will be
exploring story elements around characters, plot and theme.
Math: We have started to look at the concepts of shape and space, more
specifically angles. Learners will continue to develop their ability
to identify and measure right, acute, obtuse and reflex angles.
Science: Last week we began our new unit "weather watch". We
started this unit by looking at the difference between climate and
weather. Students will learn how to measure temperature, predict weather
patterns and classify different types of cloud.
Social Studies: We will continue to explore the different
geographic regions of Canada. Going forward, we will be looking at
the Great Lakes - St. Lawerence Lowlands, the Interior Planes and the
Cordillera.
Physical Education: For the month of January we will be learning and
practicing the skills needed to play Ringette and Floor Hockey.
The weather is supposed to stay extremely cold for the remainder of the week. Frostbite can happen in minutes. Please continue to make sure your children are dress appropriately for the weather, this means winter jackets, hats, mitts / gloves, boots, and scarves.
